  • South Lake is a popluar destination on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Bishop, California in Inyo County.  The lake attracts people for its nearby hiking trails and its fishing...This is a digital combination of an infrared image and a visible color image.  The color picture is used to colorize the infrared image giving a foreign and new perspective.  Plants and trees reflect more infrared light and appear brighter in images while the sky reflects less making it darker.

The Applegate River is a 51-mile (82 km) long tributary of the Rogue River. It drains forested foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains along the Oregon-California border.

  • While searching for a Christmas Tree, I came a across this calm mountain stream in California that feeds into Applegate Lake. The white trees reflect in the calm stream and create a surreal winter scene.

  • Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon on the crest of the Cascade Mountain range. It lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, created when the 12,000 foot (3,660 meter) high Mount Mazama collapsed during a violent eruption...Crater Lake has a depth of 1,943 feet (592 meters) and is the seventh deepest lake in the world and the deepest in the United States. Crater Lake receives on average 533 inches of snow each year which supplies the lake with with water. There are no inlets or outlets to the lake. Evaporation and seepage prevent the lake from becoming any deeper.

  • South Lake is a popluar destination on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Bishop, California in Inyo County.  The lake attracts people for its nearby hiking trails and its fishing...This is an infrared image which captures light that we cannot see and turns it into a visible image. Plants like flowers and grass reflect more infrared light and appear brighter in infrared images while the sky reflects less making it darker.

  • Yosemite National Park's most well-know feature is Half Dome, which stands at an altitude of 8,836 feet and 4,737 feet above the valley floor. As the rock was exposed, weathering and exfoliation of shell-like outer layers of the rock shaped the dome portion of the rock to its current shape. The summit is attainable as a day hike in the summer, if you have the stamina to undertake a 17-mile roundtrip hike with 5000 feet of elevation gain from the valley floor...This is a digital combination of an infrared image and a visible color image.   • Yosemite Valley is known around the world for its beauty.  El Capitan can be seen on the left and Half Dome on the right in the distance. The valley Is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains and stretches for 7 miles (11 km). More than half a dozen creeks create waterfalls into the valley falling from 3000-4000 feet (900-1200 m) above the valley floor, which is 4000 ft (1200 m) above sea level. The streams combine into the Merced River, which flows into the San Joaquin Valley.   • Near Tuolumne Meadows, Dog Lake is a small lake surrounded by woods rather than granite hills. Neaby the lake is Lembert Dome which overlooks the meadows and the Tuolumne River. The treeless granite dome has a sheer west face, 300 feet high, that becomes less steep on the other three sides.
