Yosemite Valley is known around the world for its beauty. El Capitan can be seen on the left and Half Dome on the right in the distance. The valley Is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains and stretches for 7 miles (11 km). More than half a dozen creeks create waterfalls into the valley falling from 3000-4000 feet (900-1200 m) above the valley floor, which is 4000 ft (1200 m) above sea level. The streams combine into the Merced River, which flows into the San Joaquin Valley. The valley floor holds both forest and large open meadows. ..This is an infrared image which captures light that we cannot see and turns it into a visible image. Plants like flowers and grass reflect more infrared light and appear brighter in infrared images while the sky reflects less making it darker.
