Nevada and Vernal Falls are just a few miles from Yosemite Valley are accessible only by foot. A mountain stream formed by snow melt forms Nevada Falls, 594 feet (181 m), which then flows down to form Vernal Falls, 240 feet (73 m). The stream eventually flows into the Merced River...This is an infrared image which captures light that we cannot see and turns it into a visible image. Plants like flowers and grass reflect more infrared light and appear brighter in infrared images while the sky reflects less making it darker.
